Name: Lie Ren
Canon: RWBY
OU/AU/OC: OU
Canon Point: Post Vol. 2
History: At this moment in time, we do not know much about Ren. We know he's from a village and he's been longtime friends with Nora "Pinkie Pie With a Grenade Launcher Hammer" Valkyrie, and that the two of them managed to get into Beacon together, but before the series proper, that's about it.
As for the canon proper, this is what we have so far.
Personality: Ren is a quiet, studious individual. He has been described by Nora as "the perfect student", which is not off-base. He takes his studies seriously, reading a book or taking notes even when other silly stuff is going on around him, choosing to stay out of things. However, he won't usually go out of his way to condone silly behavior, seeing as how he is good friends with Nora and has tolerated her antics for most of his life. He just lets it happen while he does his own thing, to an extent.
He is shown as an honest and straightforward person to deal with. When Nora tells wild stories about a recurring dream, Ren is quick to correct her exaggerations and give the straight truth. It's a common theme with him, pointing out factual oddities ("I still don't think that's what a sloth sounds like") all with the same somewhat tired, deadpan tone of voice.
Aside from Pyrrha, Ren serves as the level head of Team JNPR, keeping everyone focused and sticking to or coming up with plans. He doesn't speak much, but all his actions are done with purpose, which the rest of his team can pick up on and follow suit, such as when he started attacking the joint of a Deathstalker's (read: giant armored scorpion) tail, which Jaune was able to spot and have the rest of the team focus there to cut the tail off and stab the Deathstalker with it. Overall, he is calm, level, and deliberate, and uses those qualities to assist his team.
Strengths: Ren has the ability to control his Aura, an energy manifestation of his soul. Though this is an ability common to most Huntsmen in Remnant, Ren is shown to have a greater degree of control than most, providing a practical example of its versatility as an offensive and defensive tool while Pyrrha explains the concept to Jaune.
He channels his aura through a very acrobatic style of martial arts, specializing in evasion and single, hard-hitting melee strikes with Stormflower's blades or his palm, using SMG fire to cover his movements and set up for a shot. He spends just as much time in the air as on the ground, aiming to outmaneuver opponents rather than just overpower them.
He also might have a special Semblance, but we don't know what it is yet.
Weaknesses: Despite his agility and adept control of Aura, Ren is shown to be physically fragile, and not able to take many hits. Thus, he is often one of the first of his team to fall in battle, sometimes even before Jaune. Things often go badly for him if he cannot gain control of the tide of battle, or gets hit with something unexpected.
He is also a stick-in-the-mud at times, and slow to make friends and get to know others besides those he's supposed to work with. That's pretty much a weakness in MLJ terms, right?
Possessions:
-Stormflower
-Ammunition for Stormflower
-More ammo
-Seriously he's gonna need a lot of ammo
-his coat to store it all in
Pony/Animal Type: Pegasus
Cutie Mark: A lotus, the same symbol as on Stormflower
Pony Picture: This, more or less.
SAMPLES
First Person: From the Test Drive
Third Person: He liked to think that training at Beacon Academy would prepare him for any situation a Huntsman may face, and even if it didn't, it would give him the tools he needed to deal with it. In a sense, that was true. In just one semester, Ren had learned a lot: about the Grimm, about history, survival skills, fighting skills, working as a team... all of it useful to him in their own way. He wasn't anywhere close to being a Huntsman yet, but already he was improving. He liked to think that he would at least be able to deal with a few curveballs in life.
This, however, wasn't a curveball. This was a corkscrew that did loops and once you figured out what was going on it turned out the ball was actually a pancake and no amount of training or preparation could ready him for it. Here he was, stuck in the middle of a small, colorful town, turned into a pegasus. That wasn't covered in survival class. It wasn't even mentioned in the supplementary textbooks.Just what had happened back there? He was going back to Beacon from the site of the Grimm breach, and then he was here. Was it a dream? It didn't feel like one. And where were the others? Were they here with him, or did they end up someplace else entirely?
Ren closes his eyes and takes a deep breath to calm himself so he can think. This was no time to panic and get lost in thoughts of what-if. He didn't know how to deal with the pegasus thing, but he does know how to deal with being lost. That was covered in class before. He just had to find out where he was and how to get back to Becaon. Or Remnant in general. That, he can focus on. It shouldn't be too hard, seeing as he was in a seemingly-civilized town. The rest can fall into place from there. His course of action settled, he takes a few cautious steps forward, trying to learn the balance of this new body. Hopefully he wouldn't run into any Grimm anytime soon...
